Comment on Your first 100 days as a product owner by Timo Higgs https://www.mindtheproduct.com/your-first-100-days-as-a-product-owner/comment-page-1/#comment-138765 Sat, 21 Dec 2024 10:37:58 +0000 https://www.mindtheproduct.com/?p=43040#comment-138765 Having your first release at ~31-50 days assumes that this is a new role and a new product.
If you’re stepping into a role and were given a handover, I can’t imagine your boss would be too happy that you’ve waited 6-10 weeks (I’m assuming we’re only counting workdays here) to release something.

I think this is a good framework for beginners, but it feels like the timing is specific to certain specific situations.
I also don’t know how comfortable I would be creating a Product Roadmap after only 2 weeks on the job. Unless I knew the product really well – by using it myself personally, for example – I wouldn’t want to have a roadmap laid out until I have a good feeling for the Product and the User.
I think instead I would create an interim plan for the next 2-3 months with help from my team to create releases happening while the roadmap takes shape. This is all very dependent, however, on how old the product is, how well it’s documented, what kind of User research flow is feeding into the dev cycles and how big the User Base is.

Comment on What it means to be a product manager in the pharmaceutical industry  by Marc Gutterman https://www.mindtheproduct.com/what-it-means-to-be-a-product-manager-in-the-pharmaceutical-industry/comment-page-1/#comment-138761 Wed, 18 Dec 2024 15:05:16 +0000 https://www.mindtheproduct.com/?p=44212#comment-138761 The section on the maturity phase was particularly interesting. In tech, we often think about product end-of-life in terms of sunsetting features or migrating users. But in pharma, you’re dealing with patent cliffs and generic competition while still maintaining critical treatments that patients depend on. Really makes you think about product lifecycle management differently.

Comment on What it means to be a product manager in the pharmaceutical industry  by Reina Yu https://www.mindtheproduct.com/what-it-means-to-be-a-product-manager-in-the-pharmaceutical-industry/comment-page-1/#comment-138760 Wed, 18 Dec 2024 04:38:31 +0000 https://www.mindtheproduct.com/?p=44212#comment-138760 This article on product management in the pharmaceutical industry offers a captivating glimpse into the intricacies of this critical field. The statement “As a product manager in pharma, you are not just launching a product, you are improving patients’ lives, and that comes with a huge responsibility” effectively captures the unique blend of business acumen and social responsibility that pharma product managers must embody.

The article also sheds light on the complexities of the pharmaceutical industry, including the regulatory landscape and the role of stakeholders such as healthcare providers and payers. The importance of understanding these complexities is succinctly summarized in the sentence: “You need to be able to speak the language of medicine, but also the language of business.”

The intersection of digital transformation and pharma product management is an area ripe for exploration. Sayali, what are your thoughts on how digital technologies like AI and real-world evidence will impact the role of pharma product managers?
